San Lak Muang or the City Pillar Shrine was to symbolized the establishment of a community. The City Pillar of Bangkok was first built on April 21, 1782. Later by the royal command of King Rama IV the old City Pillar, was replaced with a new one. So there are now two pillars standing together in the shrine.
